How to avoid defects in jewelry casting
Casting defects rarely appear by chance. Some of the risks are visible even before launch: in the model, wax, wall thickness, packaging or choice of metal.
1. Check the fragile places
Thin jumpers, sharp transitions, long thin elements and closed cavities are best shown before launch. If we see a risk, we warn before production.
2. Do not pack wax under pressure
The wax cracks easily in shipping. Each model must be fixed separately, do not press down with heavy objects and add a list of models.
3. Consider shrinkage
The benchmark for shrinkage is about 2-2.5%. For exact fits, paired parts and serial products, this reserve should be laid down at the design stage.
4. Provide maximum data in the application
Material, model, weight of wax, number of products, required term and method of delivery help to assess risks faster and not waste time on clarification.
5. See inspection as part of control
The purpose of the review is not to fail the customer, but to make the outcome predictable and transparent to payment and launch.
What risks are better to show before the start
Most often, questions arise around very thin walls, long openwork elements, closed cavities, stone plantings, proprietary metal, serial parts and models that have already been damaged during preparation or delivery.
What a useful query looks like
Describe the material, quantity, planned weight, important dimensions, desired term and add a photo or model file. If the product is paired or has an exact fit, write about it immediately - such details affect the risk assessment.
What do we do if the risk is high
We don't run a questionable model silently. If we see a weak point, we offer to discuss a correction, design change or other work scenario so that the customer makes a decision before starting production.
